In the iconographical gallery of Peter Max, 'Zero Megalopolis' is the urbane, androgynous, interplanetary statesman that first emerged in the artist's drawings and paintings in the 1980s. With derby, monocle and striped coat, 'Zero' is the favored guest of salons and soirées - a visitor on a stellar adventure of peace and détente. 

'Zero In Spectrum' is a representative of Max's freestyle painting technique that emerged in the 1980s. During this time, the artist began painting with quick-drying acrylics, using large brushes that required movement of his entire body, not just his wrist. He painted robustly in a style called 'wet-on-wet' by painters like Larry Rivers, mixing colors right on the brush - seen in the strokes, lines and color planes of 'Zero In Spectrum.'
