Statue Of Liberty I MP 99/100
Color Etching
22" x 19.5"
Having dreamt of America since he was a young boy growing up in Shanghai, Peter Max first painted Lady Liberty in 1976 to celebrate America's bicentennial. He has expressed his love for her in the decades since through drawings, paintings, mixed media, sculpture and as color etchings - one of the oldest and most complex printmaking art forms and one of the artist's most cherished.
The bold and expressionistic black line work of 'Statue of Liberty I' touches soft and subtle color washes to create this striking and noble, patriotic etching. Liberty stands as an enlightening, neoclassical sculpture in New York harbor. This work is a tribute from the artist to the lady who has inspired him since childhood.
