Sailboat Ver I #31
Mixed Media on First Day of Issue Envelope
7" x 10"
Peter Max's 'Sailboat' is a unique and commemorative piece, and is truly a mix of mediums. The artist has drawn his peaceful 'Zen Boat' sailing on calm waters in a fantastical dreamscape of celestial bodies in his smooth, black, calligraphic line flow with washes of soft and bold watercolor and pencil work on a first day of issue envelope.
The envelope is block-stamped with 4 panels of environmental stamp art, in his cosmic-art style, that Max was commissioned to create for the 1997 United Nations Earth Summit. The piece is posted with an illustrative stamp for first day of issue and embossed with Peter Max's artist seals.
This Earth Summit and United Nations General Assembly commemorated the fifth anniversary of the first Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro where over 100 heads of state convened to address issues of environmental protection and sustainable development.
This is a one-of-a-kind, distinctive work that the artist created for environmental causes, which he has been passionate about throughout his career.
