Sailboat East On Blends #102
A uniquely-overpainted lithograph with heavy acrylic embellishment.
Peter Max's memories of his childhood in Shanghai are expressed in 'Sailboat East On Blends.' A Chinese 'junk' boat, what the artist calls 'Zen Boats,' moves with a full sail across a tranquil lake along a horizon of mountains.
The subject and bold line work in this piece is reminiscent of the Japanese woodblock prints 'ukiyo-e,' meaning 'pictures of the floating world.' With an electric color blend framing the composition, the artist adds more vivid and daring color with acrylic stroke work and bold, color planes - creating a tranquil and stunning work.
