Peter Max's 'Roseville Sage' painting was inspired by his personal collection of the celebrated and beloved Roseville Pottery. Like the artisan pottery, this 'Roseville Sage' work has influences from the early 20th Century Art Nouveau movement in the curves and swirls of the vibrantly painted clusters of flowers. 

The work is also inspired by the Art Deco movement with its field of bold, geometric stripes. A wise sage, a memory from the artist's childhood in Shanghai, is illuminated against a dark color plane as he looks out and to the future.
