Peter Max first painted Lady Liberty in 1976 to celebrate America's bicentennial. His love affair with her has continued through the decades and he has painted her for many events, commissions and exhibitions - experimenting with variations in color, pattern and brushwork for her portrait. 

Max often works through his inspirations simultaneously in pen, paint and print. Printmaking has been central to Max's practice since the 1960s and the printing art forms are as important to him as his painting work. In this distinctive graphic print, Lady Liberty's calm beauty is vibrantly accentuated with Max's bold, expressionistic brushwork - inspired by colorful fireworks reflecting on her face in New York Harbor. The artist frames Liberty in one of his signature, electric, color blend borders on a lush, color blend margin, creating a stunning and patriotic graphic print.
