With love for his country, Peter Max has painted 'Lady Liberty' since America's Bicentennial in 1976. After spearheading her renovation in the early 1980s and as an honored guest at the gala for her restoration celebration on July 4th, 1986, Max was inspired by the way she was colorfully illuminated by the fireworks over New York Harbor.
The artist has captured the firework's brilliant and beautiful frenzy of color reflecting off her classically sculpted face in his portraits ever since. This striking and patriotic poster captures the powerful color, curves of sgraffito and intricate detail of Max's Liberty's portrait in vivid color and dramatic contrast.
