Lady Thru Window
A limited edition graphic print on fine archival paper. One from a numbered edition of 300 signed by Peter Max.
Peter Max often works through his inspirations simultaneously in pen, paint and print. Printmaking has been central to his practice since the 1960s and the printing art forms are as important to him as his painting work. In this sublime graphic print, Max renders one of his most iconic subjects - feminine profiles. Emerging as sketches as early as 1967, his profiles have evolved through many styles and mediums over the decades.
Drawn in fluid, calligraphic line with subtle color wash and gentle pencil embellishment, the lady's eyes are almost closed - content in her repose and with her friend among a flurry of Max's geometric 'zooples.' We see the 'Lady Thru Window' composition in an elongated space and are witness to its peace, beauty and grace.
