Rare Vintage Lithograph - Limited Quantity

1980

27.25 x 21

One of 30 Artist's Proofs signed by Peter Max.

Peter Max's dynamic, vintage print, 'Zero's Friend' is a stylistic departure from his 'Cosmic Art' period of the 1960s. Instead of bold, unbroken line work, which had been a hallmark of his earlier works, Max began to minimize his line - it became more suggestive and fluid, echoing the drawings of Matisse and Picasso.

In the pantheon of Peter Max's creative companions, 'Zero Megalopolis' is the cosmopolitan and interplanetary traveler that first emerged in the artist's drawings and paintings in the early 1980s. This rare piece, one of only 30 Artist Proofs, is one of Max's earliest prints of his derby-wearing, monocled subject.

'Zero's Friend' is the favored guest of salons and soirées - a visitor on a stellar adventure of peace and inquiry. 'Zero' captures us with his piercing and peaceful look. He is ready to engage and rendered in Max's exquisite, fluid, contour lines and soft, stunning color washes.
