Lady With Profile II Ver. I #25
Mixed Media on F.D.I.E.
7" x 10"
Peter Max's 'Lady with Profile' is a unique and commemorative piece, and truly a mix of mediums. The artist has drawn two of his iconic female profiles, one in half-length, the other of her face alone, in his smooth and calligraphic line flow with a wash of soft water-color on a first day of issue envelope. The simple, perfect and elegant line work is reminiscent of Matisse; the water-color delicate and subdued.
The envelope is block-stamped with 4 panels of environmental stamp art, in his cosmic-art style, that Max was commissioned to create for the 1997 United Nations Earth Summit. The piece is postmarked with an illustrative stamp for fist-day-of-issue.
This Earth Summit and United Nations General Assembly commemorated the fifth anniversary and review of the first Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro where more than 100 heads of state convened to address issues of environmental protection and sustainable development. This is a one-of-a-kind, distinctive work that the artist created for environmental causes, which he has been passionate about throughout his career.
