In this seminal work in collage, Peter Max expresses the lightning explosion of rock music throughout the '60s counterculture. 

Max called it 'Audio DNA,' as rock was not only a revolution but an evolution through many music genres in our culture-- country, blues, folk, gospel, jazz, boogie-woogie, doo-wop, rhythm & blues and rockabilly. 

Through this psychedelic, mirror-imaged, multi-colored work, Peter Max illustrates rock's evolution through the 1960s from Elvis Presley to Bob Dylan, the Beatles, James Brown, the Who, the Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa, the Mamas & the Papas, Simon and Garfunkel, the Beach Boys and many others. 

The complexity of Max's collage work is balanced with the visual symmetry of the piece. Max's signature, vivid color-blends sweep through the work, as his kinetic, expressionistic brushstrokes bring added depth. This bold and explosive piece captures the zeitgeist of the '60s and visualizes the music of a generation.
