Tip Toe Floating On Blends #24
A uniquely-overpainted lithograph with heavy acrylic embellishment.
This enigmatic and vibrant work features an exemplar drawing from Peter Max's signature 1960s 'Cosmic Art' period - in which he expressed his bold and dynamic use of color, form and animated art technique. Max's uplifting interpretation of pop art, addressing the love-and-peace movement brought him international recognition, broad popularity and celebrated museum and gallery exhibitions.
In 'Tip Toe Floating on Blends,' Max's cosmic character tip toes lightly and studies the face looking back at him from a balloon in his hands. Flowers for legs help float him along and he wears more flowers on his sleeves. He seems light as air, looking as if he will soon ascend and float away. The artist has framed the subject in a soothing, color blend border - adding thick strokes of acrylic paint and bold, graphic planes of euphoric color. Max's vivid and complementary colors make this piece exceptionally striking.
