Seated Lady In Room Ver. I #1
Acrylic on Paper
16" x 20"
Illustrative of Peter Max's drawing style that emerged in the 1970s, 'Seated Lady in Room' echoes the drawings of Matisse and Picasso with minimal, calligraphic, broken flows of line.
The line work is suggestive not solid, flowing and fluid, colored with soft washes of paint in subdued tones, not common in Max's works. The 'Seated Lady,' content in her decorative, upholstered chair, holds a bouquet as tree leaves peak through her window; all rendered in swirled, calligraphic strokes and gentle yet lively brushwork.
