Peter Max's vintage serigraph, 'Lady Against Clouds' marks a departure for the artist as he moved from his 1960s 'Cosmic Art' period with solid black line work and full, bold color, to more subtle renderings with softer, fluid lines. During this new period in the 1970s, he used color in gentle washes with subdued tones and punctuations of vibrant saturation.

This rare serigraph features one of the artist's favorite subjects - the feminine profile. The lady's eyes are almost closed as she dreamily watches a Max 'Zen Boat' sailing on the horizon with mountains of clouds filling the sky and reflecting on the water in front of her. This is a work of serene tranquility and contentment expressed in the artist's flowing lines and gracious, gentle color.
