I Love The World Ver. II #40
Mixed Media on Paper
16" x 20"
Peter Max created the sketch for 'I Love the World' while backstage at the Live-Aid concert in 1985. It was the most high-profile music event of the era raising money for famine relief in Ethiopia.
Max was so inspired by the generosity and outpouring of caring from the event that he drew an angel embracing the planet. In this painting, sumptuous, textural brushstrokes create fullness and depth in the angel, her embrace and the world. Her profile is created with gentle, minimalist strokes; contrasted with the exuberant color and thick, energetic brushwork of her hair and the globe she lovingly holds. The painting is reminiscent of a High Renaissance or later Art Nouveau feminine relief profile.
