Angels are one of Peter max's favorite subjects. He sees them as creatures of higher ideals and pureness of spirit. They have appeared frequently in the artist's work since the 1960's. His 'Angel With Sun on Blends' is drawn with elegant, calligraphic line work and filled with vibrant color. Her heart beams from her chest as her majestic wings spread against the sun. 

Printmaking has also been central to Max's practice since the 1960s, when he experimented with a 'split fountain' technique on press to achieve fluid color blend gradations from his press inks. Max continued his work with his lush, signature color blends through the decades. In this piece, he has framed his angel in a bold, color blend border set against an electric and complimentary color blend margin - creating a peaceful and exhilarating graphic print.
