In 'Woodstock Series - Profile,' a celestial traveler moves through the heavens with the clouds and a flock of birds, as an ornate bird nests in the traveler's thoughts and delights in the journey. This is an iconic image from Peter Max's signature 1960s 'Cosmic Art' period - an era of works that inspired and captured the zeitgeist of a generation and brought the artist international acclaim.

Printmaking has been central to Max's practice since the 1960s, when he experimented with a 'split fountain' technique on press to achieve vibrant and fluid color blend gradations from his press inks. Max continued his work with his lush, signature color blends through the decades. In this piece he frames his cosmic profile with a bold, color blend border against an electric and complementary color blend margin, creating an exuberant and ethereal graphic print.
